LAGIRS 2025 – Successfully Completed
The Latin American GRSS & ISPRS Remote Sensing Conference (LAGIRS 2025) was successfully held in Foz do Iguaçu, bringing together the Latin American and international community in remote sensing, geoinformation and Earth observation.
Conference Highlights
- Participants
- Countries represented
- Submissions
- Presentations (oral and poster)
- Reviewers
The event was jointly organized with the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (IEEE GRSS), reinforcing its international scope and scientific excellence.
Among the key highlights, the GeoTech4Frontiers Track stood out for fostering dialogue between academia, government, and industry.
GeoTech4Frontiers Track

One of the key highlights of LAGIRS 2025 was the GeoTech4Frontiers Track, coordinated by Rafael Lemos Paes, Pierre Duquesne and Ulisses Guimarães. The initiative promoted a structured dialogue between academia, government, and industry, addressing strategic themes such as borders, environmental surveillance, geospatial intelligence, and territorial governance.

About the Conference
LAGIRS 2025 is meant to be a preeminent event in remote sensing in Latin American and shall provide an ideal forum for obtaining up-to-date information about the latest developments, exchanging ideas, identifying future trends and networking with the Latin American and international geoscience and remote sensing community.
The 2020 edition, organized by Chile, had its proceedings published in:
- IEEE Xplore, and
- International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, ISPRS.
The LAGIRS 2025 technical program includes the following thematic tracks:
- Production and Economy: Agriculture, Silviculture, Fishing, Mining, Urban Development, Services, and other productive applications.
- Environment and Ecology: Climate Change, Forests, Water and Hydrology, Biodiversity, Oceans, Land Use and Land Cover, Atmosphere, Soils and Geology, and other environmental applications.
- Social Applications: Disasters, Emergencies, Health, Education, Food Security, Cultural Heritage, and other social-related applications.
- Regional Issues: Amazonian Deforestation and Degradation, Andes Glacier Reduction, Urban Densification, Antarctic Defrosting, and other region-specific applications.
- Other Applications: Topics not specifically included in the categories above.
For this 2025 edition, accepted papers will have three publication options:
- ISPRS Annals or IEEE Xplore – according to the author’s choice at the time of submission.
- Extended abstracts – published in the official Proceedings of LAGIRS 2025, available on the SELPER Brasil and SELPER International websites. Each extended abstract will receive a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
The official language of the LAGIRS 2025 conference is English. All presentations, discussions, and materials will be in English.
GeoTech4Frontiers – Innovation, Technology Parks, and Border Security
One of the highlights of LAGIRS 2025 is the GeoTech4Frontiers Track, a strategic space for dialogue, demonstrations, and collaboration between science, technology, industry, and government, addressing the challenges and opportunities of Latin American border regions.
Themes and focus areas:
-
Integrated monitoring and security of land, maritime, and aerial borders.
-
Technological innovation for defense, intelligence, and territorial management.
-
Strengthening state presence and fostering sustainable regional development.
This track will bring together government agencies, research centers, technology parks, startups, and innovation ecosystems to explore how Earth observation, geospatial technologies, AI, and data analytics can support strategic actions and decision-making.
Thematic axes:
-
Technological solutions and innovation for borders.
-
Technology parks and innovation environments (highlighting ANPROTEC’s role).
-
Institutional integration and international cooperation.
-
Case studies, pilot projects, and startups with applied solutions.
Dates: November 11–12, 2025
Venue: Cineteatro Barrageiros – Itaipu ParqueTec
Key features:
- Integrated area with lounge, coffee-breaks, booths, and networking space.
- Auditorium for around 150 people connected to the exhibition area.
- Live podcast recordings to amplify discussions and content.
This track also connects with the main LAGIRS scientific program through plenary sessions and keynote speakers held in the main auditorium, creating a strong bridge between scientific content and strategic initiatives.
